Response/Rating (1-4): 3, This book was very interesting. The whole time I just kept wondering why he would wish to be a rock!
One question you would ask before a read aloud: If you had a magic pebble, what would you wish for?
Reading Strategies Connection:
a. Reading Strategy: Readers Theatre
b. Strategy Description: The events in the story will be scripted into parts for the students to perform. The character roles will be the narrators, Sylvester, the lion, Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Duncan, the neighbors, the police, the dogs, and the wolf. There will be a couple of narrators to give more students a chance to retell the story. Then the students will receive their lines and perform the readers theatre as a class. Since there isn't many roles to fill, a new group of students can be selected to fill the roles another round of readers theatre.
c. Rationale: This strategy would be appropriate for this book because it will give the students a chance to enjoy the story and bring the text to life as they retell the story in the form of drama. They can also develop reading fluency as they reread their lines and interpret the story with their voices.
