Genre:Children's Picture book
Grade Level:K-3
Readers who will like this: Anyone who's had a great teacher that they adore.
Response/Rating (1-4): 4; I feel like many children can relate to this book. I am sure many students have done something they've regretted doing and felt very, very, very sorry for afterwards.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: How many of you have done something that you wish you hadn't done, when you were having a bad day?
Reading Strategies Connection:
a. Reading Strategy: Journals; Reading Log
b. Strategy Description: After the read aloud, the students will be prompt with the question, "Have you ever done something bad when you were having a bad day, that you wished you hadn't done?" Then the students will be asked to journal about what they did and why they did it. To finish off their journals, they will be reminded of what Lilly did to try to fix what she had done. The students will then be asked to write what they could have done to fix what they did.
c. Rationale: This strategy will allow for students to reflect on the actions of the character in the story and compare it to their own actions. To journal about their own similar experience will encourage the students to think critically about their actions. Then to come up with a potential solution to fix their problem, they will have to think creatively like the character in the book.
