One question I would ask before a read aloud: In what ways can we help to preserve nature?

10/40: Clusters, from 50 Literacy Strategies by Gail E. Tompkins.
This strategy uses main topics and branches to demonstrate student learning. In connection to this book, the middle idea would be Preserving Nature. Students would then brainstorm ideas of how we can help to preserve nature, adding detail to each step. This strategy would not only help students to understand ways to preserve the earth, but could be translated into actual activities the students' could perform for Earth Day.
