The Ugly Duckling

Pinkney, Jerry. (1999). The Ugly Duckling. Illus. Jerry Pinkney. New York, New York: HarperCollins Publisher.

Annotation: This is a cute little story about an "ugly duckling" that was teased since hatching from his egg. His siblings teased him and everyone that he crossed paths with once he ran away from home. In the end, the ugly duckling finds his place as a beautiful swan.
Genre: Traditional literature
Grade Level: k-4th
Readers who would like this: This would be a great book for children that feel like they are different in some way or that get teased for who they are. It is a book of empowerment.
Ratings/Response: I give this book a 4, I think the storyline and the watercolor illustrations are outstanding. I can relate to this book, so I find this book captivating.
Question: Is there something that you find different about yourself that others might not understand, if so what is it?
