Brief Annotation: This book is about two boys that are going through a hard time in their lives. The two boys soon create a fast friendship and learn a lot about themselves and each other.

Readers who will like this: Children that have been through divorce or children that have lost someone close to them will be able to relate every well to the character's feelings.
Response/Rating (1-4): 3; This is a book that is narrated in two voices. We get a very good insight into the feelings of both characters and can feel what they are going through. When the boys finally meet they learn about themselves and are able to lean on each other through the pain. Their summer ends abruptly when Spencer has to leave Bird lake because his mom is having too hard of a time coping at the lake.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever spent a weekend or week at the lake?
